Breast Cancer Awareness Month

This week we want to give a shoutout to all of the amazing women and men out fighting for their lives. October is breast cancer awareness month and as such we wanted to give our readers not only products that you can purchase in support of breast cancer awareness, but also events you can go to to further support the cause.

According to the American Cancer Society more than 249,000 individuals get diagnosed with invasive breast cancer every single year. As a response hundreds of companies each year come together to release limited edition products with the goal of donating a portion of the proceeds to various breast cancer organizations. Items vary from makeup to clothing to food so there is not shortage of items to purchase. With so many options to choose from the real difficulty will be narrowing down what to get!

Breast Cancer AwarenessIf you’re a makeup lover, be sure to browse through your favorite makeup websites, as multiple products are popping up everywhere in honor of breast cancer awareness month. One of our favorite products, the cult classic Beauty Blender, is releasing a limited pale pink edition of their famous product and donating 50% of the proceeds to the Look Good Feel Better Foundation!

Where to purchase:

RollerballIf you’re in need of a new on-the-go fragrance, Tory Burch will also be featuring their Love Relentlessly Rollerball which retails at their online website at $30. Tory Burch has promised to donate 20% of the proceeds, up to $25,000 to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation! At your convenience you can find this perfect purse-size addition perfume at your local Sephora, Bloomingdales, Macy’s or Nordstrom.

5 FAB Looks from the 2017 Emmys

Happy Wednesday to all our fellow FAB fashionistas out there! Today, we are bringing you our top 5 favorite looks from Sunday’s Emmys. We must admit, it was pretty hard to narrow it down to just 5 because we saw so many ladies (and gentlemen) dressed to the nines! Ladies like Shailene Woodley, Viola Davis, and Nicole Kidman killed it with the darker, autumn toned shades while ladies like Millie Bobby Brown, Sofia Vergara, and Samira Wiley showed us that you can indeed look FAB wearing white after Labor Day. So without further ado, we present to you our top 5 favorite looks!

Shailene Woodley

First up on our list we have Shailene Woodley, from HBO’s Big Little Lies. Shailene awed us all in her floor length moss green velvet dress by Ralph Lauren. So simple, yet so elegant with minimal accessories. Hey, Shai, if you don’t plan on wearing the dress again we wouldn’t mind “borrowing” it for a night out! 😉

Angela Sarafyan

Angela Sarafyan, from HBO’s Westworld, wore one of those dresses that literally nobody else could pull off, except herself, and she did indeed look drop dead gorgeous in it! Her off the shoulder yellow Elizabeth Kennedy dress complemented her skin tone so well and really made her eyes pop. Not to take away from the color of the dress, Angela opted for a more natural make-up style and very minimal accessories.

Yara Shahidi

Next up on our list we have Yara Shahidi from ABC’s Black-ish. Her beige and sea-foam green embroidered Prada gown truly made her look like a walking goddess. She paired the ensemble with a metallic gold belt around the waist that really brought the whole look together.

Gina Rodriguez

Our next FAB fashionista is Gina Rodriguez from The CW’s Jane the Virgin. Gina showed up all smiles in a floor length red sequined dress with a deep v neckline by Naeem Khan. She totally rocked the red carpet in this gown and we could all tell that she felt like a total #BOSS from the way she was smiling from ear to ear the whole time.

Claire Foy

And last, but certainly not list, we have Claire Foy from Netflix’s The Crown. Unlike our previous fashionistas we mentioned, Claire decided to opt for an off the shoulder Oscar De La Renta black jumpsuit for the occasion. She rocked the look looking as chic and classy as ever. Pairing the look with some simple silver accessories, black heels, and bright red lips, she definitely showed up looking like royalty!

And that’s a wrap to this year’s Emmys Red Carpet looks! Did we mention your favorite look? If not, let us know who looked the most FAB in the comments down below!

the FAB team,

Fall Favorites

Wow, time flies when you’re having fun…summer has passed by in a whirlwind and now it’s already September.  Even though summer is over, the good thing about September is that it is officially the start of pumpkin spice lattes, winter outfits, holidays, and fall foods.  In other words, it is the beginning of fall season!!!!  Here are some of our favorites that showcase why we’re so excited for this fall season.

First, of course we are pumped to now be able to have one of the signature flavors that is only available during the fall:  pumpkin spice! Nothing gets you quicker into the holiday spirit than sipping on Pumpkin Spice Latte which tastes like Christmas in a cup.  Whether you get it from Starbucks, Dunkin Donuts, or even make it fresh at home you can’t go wrong with this flavorful drink. And if, like us, you’re still stuck in summer like weather then opt for the iced version which happens to be just as delicious!

Another amazing treat that you can only get during the fall season is a pumpkin spice cupcake.  We found this amazing recipe that is all but mistake proof. Tested and tried these cupcakes will be the perfect sweet treat to get you in the holiday spirit.

Pumpkin Spice Cupcakes

Serves: 24 cupcakes and 2 cups frosting

For the cupcakes:

  • 1 (16.25-ounce) spice cake mix
  • 1 (15-ounce) can pure pumpkin puree
  • 3 large eggs
  • ¼ cup water
  • ⅓ cup vegetable oil
  • Prepared cream cheese frosting or use the frosting recipe below
  • ¼ cup toasted pecans for topping (optional)

For the frosting:

  • 1 (8-ounce) package cream cheese, softened
  • 1 stick (1/2 cup) butter, softened
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 cups powdered confectioners sugar

For the cupcakes:

  1. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F. Place cupcake liners in 24 muffin cups (or grease muffin cups).
  2. Blend cake mix, pumpkin puree, eggs, water and oil in a large bowl at low speed until moistened. Increase speed to medium and beat for an additional 2 minutes.
  3. Pour batter into muffin cups evenly (about ¾ full).
  4. Bake for 19-22 minutes, or until a wooden toothpick inserted is removed clean.
  5. Cool on wire rack for at least 10 minutes. Cool completely before frosting.

For the frosting:

  1. In a large bowl using electric mixer at medium speed, beat cream cheese, butter and vanilla together until smooth and creamy, about 1 minute.
  2. Slowly add powdered sugar and beat until incorporated well. Increase speed to high and beat until light and fluffy, about 4 minutes.
  3. Frost cupcakes and top with toasted pecans, if desired.

Not only does fall bring you amazing drinks and sweets, it also finally allows you to switch out your tanks and shorts for comfy jeans and sweaters.  I don’t know if it’s just me but sweaters and jeggings are my favorite combination because with the right sweater, your outfit can be both cute and comfortable which is the most important part.  If it’s a little colder in your area, you can always accessorize with scarves, beanies, or gloves and always remember to layer, layer, layer!  Layering is super essential to packing in the heat for cold days but when it’s done right, it can also make an outfit look super put together and fashionable.  My closet essentials for layering are: flannels, thin hoodies, patterned scarves, and knee high socks.  For example, if you want to wear a cute tank top, layer with a flannel and a jacket and you’ll be able to showcase your summer shirt without the cost of being too cold.  Also, knee high socks layered over sheer leggings also give a cute and girly look when you want to wear a dress without exposing your legs to windy weather.

Lastly, the start of fall means that we’re getting closer and closer to the Holidays and that’s always something to look forward to.  Now that it’s September, the countdown to Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years has begun and we can’t wait to get festive with our family and friends! Comment down below if, like us, you can’t wait to get into this year’s holiday spirit, and don’t forget to share with your friends so they too can get in the mood. 🙂

Wishing you all the best!

San Diego

First up is beautiful coastal San Diego! With its beautiful beaches and sandstone cliffs it makes it the ideal destination for adventurers as well as sunbathers alike. Spend the day in Balboa Park, with its multiple museums, theaters, and gardens making it the perfect backdrop for those end of summer insta posts. And if you’re looking for a place to stay the night then look no further than the Fairmont Grand Del Mar with their 5-stay spa, swimming pools, and a highly ranked Addison and Amaya restaurants! It is the perfect one stop shop for all your vaca needs. If you are looking for a more budget friendly options, check out AirBNBs in the San Diego area, they have a wide selection of beach side homes and apartments to choose from! Finally, while beach side don’t forget to visit the incredible Urban Solace known for their mouthwatering comfort food with an inventive twist.

San Francisco

Next up is the one and only San Francisco. Having been there a couple of times, we can honestly say there are endless things to do! From visiting Chinatown to the world famous Golden Gate Bridge, you’ll definitely want to keep coming back to this fun town. If you are planning an overnight stay look into AirBNBs all over the San Fran area, you’ll be sure to find something that fits your needs while not breaking the bank. Although if hotels are more your style than we highly recommend the Hotel Nikko as well as the Grand Hyatt, both of which were amazingly accommodating and luxurious. Finally, a San Fran trip isn’t complete without a trip down to Pier 39 for the famous and utterly scrumptious Clam Chowder located at the Pier Market Seafood Restaurant.

San Francisco

Las Vegas

Then we have Vegas.  Vegas has many hotels to stay at that put you right on the strip, including the Bellagio and the MGM Grand.  These hotels also offer various deals if you book through travel sites, so you have more money to spend on all the great things you can do in vegas. During the day you can visit any of the exciting attractions, including indoor skydiving at Convention Center Drive, see the sharks at the Mandalay Bay Shark Reef, or ride the rollercoasters in Adventuredome at Circus Circus.  For those of you who are seeking less thrills and more relaxation, there is the Bellagio Conservatory where they have gorgeous seasonal garden displays or the Bellagio’s Spa that offers a variety of services. Then for those who enjoy the vegas nightlife Las Vegas offers a variety of clubs including Omnia, 1 Oak, and Marquee.  This offers endless adventures to be had in Vegas.

Palm Springs

Ahh Palm Springs, yes while it may get ridiculously hot over the summer, we can’t help but love everything about it from the architecture to the colors! When it comes to finding a place to stay in Palm Springs, you have quite the selection of aesthetically pleasing places to choose from. There’s The Parker, The Saguaro, The Ace Hotel and a huge assortment of beautiful AirBNBs. Aside from having an amazing assortment of beautiful hotels to choose from, Palm Springs’ dining and shopping selections do no disappoint as well. Our favorite places for food are Cheeky’s, Workshop Kitchen and Jake’s! Oh and while you’re in Palm Springs you can’t forget to take a picture with the iconic PINK DOOR!

Palm Springs

Santa Barbara

Santa Barbara is definitely one of the biggest tourist locations in California, and for good reason! From their breathtaking coastal views, their Spanish inspired buildings, and their variety of delicious food and lively entertainment offerings. For our fellow wine lovers, Santa Barbara is known for their stunning vineyards. Our favorite is Municipal Winemakers – it’s a more casual winery, so don’t be afraid to show up in your shorts and flip-flops, but they certainly do not lack quality when it comes to their wines! After a day of wine tasting, we recommend checking out Downtown along State Street where you can find different boutiques, fine dining restaurants, and galleries.

Santa Barbara

Picturesque and quaint Ojai is located just outside of Santa Barbara. Tucked away in the mountains, it is definitely a place where many people visit to be able to unplug from the rest of the world and completely relax. We recommend checking in to the Ojai Valley Inn & Spa or the Ojai Rancho Inn for your weekend vacay.  And if you’re a fan of all things organic and healthy, then stop on by Farmer and the Cook. All their food is made using local ingredients and is vegan friendly! After a long day of exploring, you’ll want to stop on by to Azu – a Spanish/Mediterranean restaurant that not only serves up refreshing cocktails, but some of the best tapas you’ll ever have!

And those are our top spots to hit this upcoming Labor Day weekend! Don’t forget to comment down below your perfect getaway.

5 Tips to Help You Prepare For Your First Day Back at School

The first day back at school after a long break always seems like a raging storm after a season of sunshine.  The stark difference between weekly beach trips and relaxing days to early morning classes and piles of homework can be pretty overwhelming and stressful.  However, us girls at Fab Design Co are here to help you get through the transition and hopefully the return back to school won’t be as bad as you anticipated.  Here are 5 tips to help prepare you for the first day back that will make you feel confident and prepared enough to conquer anything that the new school year brings!

1. Make sure you don’t procrastinate

If you have summer homework such as summer reading, get your butts to the beach or pool and hit the books!!  Summer reading doesn’t have to be such a drag because you can make it into a leisure activity if you are in your happy place and relax by the pool while you read about Santiago’s journey or Frankenstein’s struggle with self.  If you set a schedule for yourself in order to complete summer homework on time that will save you from the stress of trying to rush and finish everything the night before.

   2.  Get all the necessary school supplies needed in advance

I don’t know if it’s just me but getting new school supplies always gets me excited and is the upside of school starting.  There’s just something about perusing the aisles of Target or Staples and buying way too many unnecessary post-it notes that gives me in the spirit of school starting and helps me accept the end of summer a little bit more.  Not only is shopping for school supplies fun, it also helps a lot if you feel fully prepared with all the needed binders, notebooks, and pens.  Most people feel more excited to take notes in notebooks that they think are really cute so be sure to pick out things that speak to you or personalize your items to make everyday items more interesting.

 3. Try adjusting your sleeping schedule

Everyone’s sleeping schedule during the summer gets a little crazy because of long nights out with friends and little to no responsibilities during the day.  When school starts again it might be really hard to transition from sleeping at 2 am and waking up past noon to sleeping at 11pm and waking up before 8 am.  A better way to prevent such a harsh change would be to start sleeping earlier progressively a week or more before the first day of school.  For example, you could start by sleeping at 1 am on Monday and with each passing day of the week sleep an hour earlier than the day before.  The same can be done with the time you wake up each morning so you can slowly get used to early mornings again and the 8 am wake up alarm won’t be as horrible.

4. Pack a really good lunch and pick out a super cute outfit for the first day

As silly as this may sound, it is actually a very good way to motivate someone to go to school and build excitement for school starting.  When you know you are going to have a very filling and delicious meal, it helps fuel you through the day so you can finally munch on your meal with your friends.  Also, having an outfit that you really like is super important because it’ll help get you out of bed because nothing helps bring confidence like a good first day outfit!  These little motivators should be prepared the night before so you can wake up feeling ready to be reunited with all your classmates and friends after a summer of rejuvenation and growth.

5. Having a thorough and relaxing night routine

Speaking of “the night before”, there are several things you can do to relax yourself the night before school starts.  Taking a bubble bath is helpful because nothing is more relaxing than a nice warm tub with a lush bath bomb (am I right??).  After the bubble bath, you should do a facial mask to help keep your skin nice and smooth.  Lastly, listening to calming and chill music with candles in the room and do the final check on the contents of your backpack so you won’t be rushed in the morning to get packed.  Most importantly, just breathe and remember that you’re ready to take on whatever is thrown at you and that your friends and family will always be there for you in the midst of your new adventures.  A new school year can seem daunting but really, it’s just another thing for you to conquer so go out there and be the fabulous person that you are and I know you’ll be just fine.

With love,

The FAB Team
