Tell us a little bit about Grace Belle and what inspired you to start it?

Grace Belle is a community & lifestyle brand that revolves around 4 personas; the Creative, the Adventurer, the Sweetheart and the Fashionista. It’s unique in that instead of categories we have personas to create content for. Originally Grace Belle was going to be a clothing store and I was going to Cal Poly Pomona for Apparel Merchandise & Management to learn how to open it. (See photos below). While in school I learned the importance of marketing and building an audience before you launch a store which is when I launched gracebelle.com. While planning the launch I decided to create the 4 personas and represent 4 styles. Although fashion and merchandising was something I loved, my biggest passion was community and bringing people together. I use to daydream about hosting workshops afterhours in the shop and how I could cultivate a community of ladies through it. Then after a few months of running the website we started to quickly grow an online community, we even hosted a few in person events. I quickly realized that I didn’t necessarily need a clothing store to cultivate a community and that’s when Grace Belle switched from a store to a community brand.
Long story short, my love for community and branding is what led me to start Grace Belle.

Why do you think diversity is important in the fashion industry, or any industry?

There is so much diversity in the world because every person is unique and has a list of interests and styles they love. Knowing that, it means a business (whether in the fashion industry or tech or any industry) can narrow down a demographic and target audience to sell to. Having the diversity in the industries allows brands to collaborate instead of competing. Since everyone takes on little notch of the industry, there’s space for all to succeed and even more so when supporting one another.

Who is your inspiration and what do they inspire in you?

  • Jenna Kutcher – She created an amazing brand / business and is teaching others how to do it as well through her podcasts “Goal Digger”
  • Dale Partridge – He’s an incredible entrepreneur and is all about educating others to become successful in order for them to have the freedom of time to spend it with loved ones
  • Andy Nguyen – Restaurant guru who started multiple viral restaurants such as Afters Ice Cream. He is a huge inspiration for me because even though he is incredibly successful, he is also very humble. There are successful people that will not give you the time of day unless you are at some elite level but Andy is one of those people who is kind to all. That is so inspiring to me.
  • Dennis Stamatoiu – Dennis is one of those guys that works incredibly hard, is very driven and learns everything on his own. If he wants to do something, he’ll learn how to do it. He inspires me to reach for high goals annnd to always learn new techniques and programs.

Is there anything you wish to inspire in others?

To chase their dreams. Too many people get stuck in a Mon-Fri job that they hate and it’s usually because they let fear stop them from chasing their dreams. I always ask people “if you didn’t let fear hold you back, what would you achieve”? Go for it, you can do it! Work hard now and you’ll create the life you want, remember you only have one life and I’m guessing you don’t want 60% of it to be doing something you don’t love.

Screen Shot 2017-10-10 at 2.21.00 PM

What do you feel is the most important aspect when expressing yourself through social media?

To express yourself on social media well you have to be known for something and you can do that by building a brand. To build an effective one you have to create a niche for yourself, what is it you want to be known for? On my personal Instagram @LorinaDaiana, I talk about 4 topics; faith, fashion, travel and entrepreneurship. I stated this in my bio and continue to share posts within those 4 categories. Besides those 4 topics I stand out by creating a specific look / brand. If you look at my profile it’s bright, girly, and you’ll probably see lots of pink hues across it.

What advice do you have for younger girls who are looking to pursue their dreams?

Be resourceful. Learn as much as you can, take courses, listen to podcasts, watch free videos and take notes through it all. Once you kind of have a grasp of the industry you want to go in, then make a plan. I highly recommend the Startup Camp Workshop Series (http://startupcamp.com/?ref=5) for when you are ready to launch a business. I’ve taken many business courses in school and in workshops and this has been the best investment out of them all.

Fenty Beauty By Rihanna First Impressions

Hello and welcome back to our ultra fabulous readers! Today we will be discussing all things beauty, specifically Fenty Beauty! Unless you’ve been living under a rock you may have heard by now that the incredible RiRi has come out with her own makeup line. This makeup line has been getting a lot of buzz because it was curated and thought up of with woman of all skin tones in mind. So without further discussion let’s jump right in!

Foundation ($34)

fenty blog 4

Rihanna shook up the beauty industry by debuting 40 different shades of foundation. Which for those with either really light or really dark complexions, this diverse range of shades will seem god sent! Now, this foundation is said to be a demi-matte finish with a medium to full coverage and once set this makeup should last you throughout your work day. The only difficult aspect of this foundation will be finding your perfect shade. Each foundation will come labeled with not only the shade but also the undertones. But as an insider tip, grab a foundation a couple of shades lighter than anticipated as this foundation is said to oxidize on the skin once dry!  So keep your receipt when purchasing just in case you need to exchange for a different shade later on.

Highlighter ($34)

fenty blog 2

Net up is our personal favorite, the highlighters! Fenty Beauty debuted with 6 different highlighters under the Killawatt Freestyle Highlighter range. Each shade caters not only to one’s color preference but also to different skin tones as well. The most talked about highlighter currently is Trophy Wife. Trophy Wife is a 3D hyper metallic gold and it is blinding! This highlighter delivers a stunning gold highlight that can be applied anywhere from the cheek bones to the collarbone and more. But be warned all of these highlighters are super pigmented so it’s best to layer on a little bit at a time.

Lips ($18)

fenty blog 3

The one thing we did find interesting about Fenty Beauty was the lack of lip products. To be specific currently there is only one lip product within the entire line. However that being said this lip product, the Gloss Bomb Universal Lip Luminizer, is the ultimate lip product. This lip gloss delivers with its ultra high shine and universally flattering rose nude shade. This gloss is said to be flattering on most skin complexions and unlike most glosses, with its unique gel like formula, this product is not sticky on the lips whatsoever! Which for us is a win in our book.

Brushes ($16-34)

fenty blog 1

Finally, rounding out our first impression on Fenty Beauty, let’s talk about brushes. Rihanna didn’t stop at just makeup, she also debuted a range of beauty tools to help you apply all her fabulous makeup. From a foundation brush to a beauty sponge, there are a lot of options for you to choose from if you are in the market for new beauty tools. Prices range from 16 dollars for the beauty sponge to 34 dollars for a full sized brush. The sponge is said to be comparable if not better than the makeup cult classic Beauty Blender and the brushed themselves are said to be extremely soft and densely packed! Overall the beauty tools are a hit and you can’t go wrong.

That rounds out our first impressions on Rihanna’s newly debuted Fenty Beauty. We hoped you liked our take on some of our favorite products! Comment down below your favorite product thus far and what you’re excited for Fenty Beauty to come out with next. 🙂

Wishing you a fabulous week!

A week of being Vegan

In the past few years, veganism has been steadily gaining more followers and supporters as people want to promote a lifestyle that not only is healthier but also prevents animal cruelty.  Netflix has even come out with an original movie this summer, Okja where the central message shows the general public that consuming animals is harmful and works to sway opinions on turning vegan.  Veganism is being vegetarian with the addition of avoiding all dairy products and any other animal by products such as honey, fur, leather, etc.  I started noticing that veganism was blowing up since more and more people were making the decision to become vegan and start a completely different lifestyle so I tried becoming vegan for a week.

On day 1 I decided to kick off my vegan week by going to one of the most popular and well-known vegan restaurants in the LA area- By Chloe in Silver Lake.  I got a “guac burger” and fries with beet ketchup and the meal was so delicious.  Although the burger obviously didn’t taste like real meat (as some people try claiming vegan patties do), the patty made up of black beans, quinoa, and bread crumbs was equally as delicious as an In-N-Out burger!  The fries tasted normal and even better than non-vegan fries in my opinion so all in all, By Chloe was a great start to my vegan diet and I would definitely go there again.

by chloe.jpg

After my meal I got an acai bowl for dessert at UbaTuba and it was a super tasty dessert that I always got anyways so it helped that it also happened to be vegan.

On day 2 I decided to go grocery shopping so I could make my own vegan meals and I got bagels, avocados, tomatoes, cereal, rice, beans, and tofu.  For my first meal, I made a toasted bagel with avocado slices and lemon pepper for seasoning and it was super yummy and simple.  For dinner I made imitation scrambled eggs using the tofu and adding different seasonings that I found through YouTube tutorials and put that on toast.

On day 3 I went to fast food places that I like and just modified my orders so that it would be vegan and I knew how to modify the food also through videos I found (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dNeaf2m_vyA&t=222s).  Knowing how to modify my orders to make it vegan made it a lot easier because I would be able to eat my favorite foods still all while still sticking to the strict vegan diet. bagel.jpg

taco bell.jpg

On day 4 I went to a korean tofu house and made sure the broth wasn’t meat based and didn’t get meat inside of my tofu soup.  The soup was still very rich and delicious and I was able to eat the traditional korean sides that were vegetables such as the kimchi, the pickled cucumber, and the bean sprouts.

korean tofu soup.jpg

On day 5 I started struggling more because I would crave chicken and beef since I’m so used to those being in my everyday diet.  It was harder to stick to the vegan diet because I couldn’t even eat eggs which I also really love.  However, I knew i needed to keep going so I looked up some recipes that could substitute veggies for meat and tried making imitation chicken fried rice.  The recipe didn’t end up really tasting like chicken so I went to Whole Foods and bought Daiya chicken and added rice and other veggies to make it more flavorful.

fried rice.jpg

On day 6 I cooked a stir fry with yakisoba noodles, assorted veggies (broccoli, red and green peppers, spinach) and a homemade sauce of soy sauce, oil, and brown sugar.  The stir fry ended up tasting really good and was pretty filling as well.

For my last day I went out to eat again at By Chloe since it was so good and I wanted to end my vegan week at a true vegan restaurant just to wrap up the whole week.

After my week of being vegan I realized it was a lot harder to adjust to this lifestyle than it seems and that you have to be really dedicated in order to stay vegan.  At some points I wanted to cheat and have meat so you also need to keep a strong mindset and remember that you are changing your thoughts on meat.  The hardest part about being vegan was remembering that even if the food item isn’t meat, if it is associated with an animal (animal by product) then you can’t eat it as well.  I would forget that even Nutella isn’t vegan so I couldn’t eat that when I snacked and I couldn’t eat cereal with normal milk.  Although it is hard becoming vegan all of a sudden, I think it would be a lot easier if I watched more videos talking about the cons of consuming meat and if I eased into it more.  This week taught me a lot about the dedication people have for a cause that they are passionate about.  Comment below if you would try challenging yourself to a week of being vegan and seeing if this lifestyle is for you or not!

The Art of Brunching

Good afternoon to all of our FAB readers!  It’s 11:00 AM on a Sunday, so you know what that means…it’s brunch time!!!  As brunch enthusiasts, we have been to our fair share of great brunch spots and here are some of our favorites:

1) Blu Jam Cafe – Los Angeles

Brunch 5Brunch 6

If you’re an LA local, you’ve most likely heard of Blu Jam since it’s a popular and hot brunch spot that always has a long line, so be sure to go early!  A Blu Jam MUST is their crunchy french toast because the texture is amazing and the berries on the toast paired with the vanilla bean syrup make this dish delicious and leave you wanting more.  Personally, my favorite brunch food is eggs benedict so my next recommendation is Blu Jam’s Norwegian benedict: poached eggs and smoked salmon on an english muffin.  With crunchy potatoes on the side, this hearty meal will leave you stuffed and satisfied.

2) Republique- Los Angeles

Brunch 7Brunch 8

For a more classy and formal brunch place, you absolutely have to go to Republique because the atmosphere is delightful and aesthetically pleasing.  This spot has French inspired architecture with high ceilings and floor to ceiling windows that let light in, so it’s perfect for cute pictures and great conversations.  One of my favorite dishes from here is the Mushroom Toast which is toast with scrambled eggs. House-cured ham, mushrooms, and spinach on it.  This dish is very flavorful and rich because the mushroom pairs very well with all the other ingredients.  Another noteworthy dish is the Kimchi fried rice which has rice, beef short ribs, soft farm eggs, and kimchi.  This asian fusion dish is scrumptious because the beef short ribs are tender and the slightly sour taste of the crunchy kimchi pairs well with all the other flavors.

Now that you know where to brunch let’s talk about a few outfit ideas that are sure to be instagram worthy!

Brunch BlogBrunch Blog 2

A brunch outfit should be the perfect combination of laid back and chic. A sure fire way to accomplish this is to have one article of clothing be your main focal point. Think of Brunch as the perfect excuse to break out your fave sun dresses and over the shoulder tops. Both of these items can be easily paired with cute flats or high heels depending on the look you’re going for. Finally, keep accessories to a minimum by simply adding a statement watch or a dainty necklace and of course your fave sunnies. And just like that, you are ready to head out the door and brunch to your heart’s content!

Finally, we’d like to give a shoutout to all the DIY lovers of the world and give you a few tips and tricks to nail your next DIY Brunch get together! Mixology: Our Favorite DIY Summer Cocktails

I must share the love of these refreshing cocktails that are simply FAB!  Not only are they pretty but they taste DELISH.  Super simple to make…and let’s be real, if you’re crazy busy like me, then this is criteria #1, and they taste waaaaay better then those powder-based or pre-mixed drinks at the store.  Add 1, 2, or all of these easy-to-make drinks to your spirit survival list this summer and impress your guests, create a signature drink for your next shindig, or unwind alone or with Bae after a long day.  And of course, if you’ll be taking your cool creations on the road to the beach, music festival, picnic or whatever, we’ve got the PERFECT drinkware for you!  Let us know your favs…I’ll be making a few of these with my girls at our next “wine”down. Cheers!

1. Pineapple Rum Punch

You may already have your go-to party punch favs but here’s another quick and easy refreshing one that you can quickly whip up on a hot day or for family and friends. You’ll need 3 cups of chilled Canada Dry® Ginger Ale, 3 cups of pineapple juice, 1 cup of Malibu Rum and fresh pineapple chunks (optional) for garnish.  Simply add the ginger ale, pineapple juice and rum over ice and serve with skewers of fresh pineapple chunks as garnish.

2. Pink Grapefruit Mojito

It’s no secret that a glass of wine, preferably a nice Sauvignon Blanc or Pinot Noir, will probably always be my drink of choice.  But when it comes to cocktails, my favs tend to be well-made mojitos are slight variations.  I discovered this recipe about a year ago on Pinch of Yum and this puckery perfection with limes, mint and of course, yummy pink grapefruit juice sweetened with honey remains in heavy rotation. I think you’ll love it!

3. Bourbon Mint Lemonade

You don’t have to be a whiskey drinker to LOVE this yummy adult lemonade. AND it only requires 3 ingredients: bourbon, mint and Simply Lemonade juice drink.  Mix up a pitcher for your next summer BBQ or girls night in for a light and refreshing cocktail.

4. Peach Moscato Wine Slushies

Just grab a bottle of your favorite sweet dessert wine, some fresh peaches (or your favorite fruit), powdered sugar and boom…you will have a SUPER refreshing cocktail! An added bonus is that you can make it ahead of time, freeze it, and have cool drinks ready to go in no time.  Make it a virgin by using sparkling white grape juice.  Click here to get the full recipe from Divas Can Cook.

5. Skinny Lime Margaritas

First things first…you only need 4 main ingredients to make this margarita on the rocks and guess what, there is no Triple Sec or processed sugar! If you’re like me and you love margaritas but hate how sugary and processed they tend to be, then you’ll love that this cocktail only includes natural ingredients: 1 mint, 1/2 cup lime juice, 2 tbsp maple syrup, 1 shot of tequila + 1 cup water, ice and salt (to rim the glass if you like).  Simply combine everything starting with 2 tablespoons of maple syrup (add more if you like it sweeter).  Then whisk together and pour over ice into two glasses. Garnish with fresh mint and salt the rims (optional).  Perfect for Taco Tuesdays and only about 100 calories per serving.

6. Strawberry Rosé Sangria

If it’s summertime, then you must have Sangria on your cocktail list! This sangria recipe from Jennifer Meyering has a little bit of a twist because it includes lemon-lime soda and vodka in addition to your favorite bottle of rosé wine which makes a light, refreshing, fruity drink that’s not too sweet. I love it!

7. Pineapple Coconut Mojito

This island treat includes 2 tbsp lime juice, 1/2 cup La Croix lime sparkling water, one 6-oz can pineapple juice, 4 oz Rum and a 1/2 cup coconut water.  Add the lime to the coconut juice then add the other ingredients and shake it all up.  That’s it!  You can give yourself a mini-vacation anytime. Serves 2.
